E-Stim Therapy in Altus and Hobart, OK
At Reed Chiropractic Clinic, we are proud to offer electrical muscle stimulation, or e-stim, to help our Altus and Hobart patients feel better. When applied to injured tissue, gentle electrical currents create thermal, physiological, and chemical responses that help control pain, relax muscle spasms, and reduce swelling, all without medication.
How E-Stim Works
E-stim uses small electrode pads placed on the skin around the area of pain or injury. A mild electrical current travels through the pads into the underlying muscles and nerves. These currents can interrupt pain signals traveling to the brain, trigger the release of the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals, and cause muscles to gently contract and relax, which improves circulation.
Interferential Stimulation
The type of electrical stimulation we use most often is interferential current therapy. Two channels of electrical stimulation cross paths to create a third current that penetrates deep into the affected tissues with very little resistance. This allows us to reach deeper muscles comfortably, helping control pain and muscle contractions more effectively than surface stimulation alone.
Benefits of Electrical Stimulation
- Relief from acute and chronic pain
- Reduced muscle spasms and tension
- Decreased swelling and edema caused by fluid buildup in tissues
- Improved circulation to injured areas
- Support for healing after sprains, strains, and accidents
- A drug-free alternative to pain medication
What E-Stim Feels Like
Most patients describe e-stim as a mild tingling, buzzing, or pulsing sensation. The intensity is always adjusted to your comfort level. If you experience any discomfort, let us know so we can adjust the settings and make sure your session is beneficial. Treatments usually last 10 to 20 minutes, and many patients find them relaxing.
Part of a Complete Treatment Plan
Our entire staff is dedicated to helping you heal. We focus on the root cause of your problem instead of covering it up with medication. E-stim is often combined with chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic ultrasound, and massage therapy, and is a common part of recovery for auto accident injuries.
If you have any questions about e-stim, contact us today at our Altus office at (580) 482-2313 or our Hobart office at (580) 726-2900.

How long does an e-stim session last?
Most e-stim sessions last between 10 and 20 minutes and are often done during the same visit as your chiropractic adjustment.

Interferential current therapy uses two electrical channels that intersect to create a third current, which penetrates deep into tissues with little resistance to relieve pain and muscle spasms.
What conditions can e-stim help with?
E-stim may help with back pain, neck pain, muscle spasms, sprains, strains, swelling, and injuries from car accidents or sports.
Is e-stim safe for everyone?
